When I was 19,1 finally got round to booking some driving lessons and had 5 lessons costing, £30 each. On every lesson I was taken to the same stretch of road, where no other vehicles were in sight and soon I began to feel that my driving instructor didn't have faith in me. So I gave up.

4 years later, I moved to Stevenage and decided it was time to start learning again. I saw PJ's car as I was turning into my close and decided to give him a ring. I told PJ I was nervous and he offered me a lesson 30 minutes after making the phone call. Apprehensively, I said yes! It was the best decision I could have made. After my first experience of driving instructors, I never expected to be driving around built up areas with buses and lorries on the roads, but PJ had me driving everywhere and I felt my confidence increasing as the lesson progressed. By the end of the lesson, I had got the driving bug! I started learning in August 2008 and had 1 lesson a week to begin with and then 2 a week when I was more confident.

PJ is really patient and flexible and used to pick me up from wherever was convenient for me. His lessons are really good value for money. Whenever I made mistakes he would reassure me and then later we would always go back to where I made the mistake and give me the opportunity to get it right. We also had a laugh and he always made me feel comfortable and at ease. PJ was very helpful too with theory questions and used to give me tests to practice at home and subsequently I passed with full marks first time!

My first practical test was cancelled in March 2009 by the DSA and I got another date for my test. PJ had a cancellation, which he offered me, but after a few lessons he said he didn't think I was ready and so I kept to the date I had been given. I really appreciated PJ's honesty, as he genuinely doesn't want me to go for a test that I wasn't ready for and waste my money.

I am happy to say that I passed my test first time in May 2009 and I believe it's because PJ had ensured I was 100% ready. I really love having the freedom to drive now, but I must admit I really miss my driving lessons with PJ. I recommend anyone learning to drive to phone him.
